Vladimir Guliaev, DMA
Cellist | Professor of Cello | Harbin Conservatory
Vladimir Guliaev is a Russian cellist and educator who has served on the faculty of Harbin Conservatory, China, since 2015.
Dr. Guliaev studied with Anatoly Nikitin at the Saint Petersburg State Conservatory before continuing his education in the United States. He earned a master’s degree from the University of Northern Iowa and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Michigan State University in 2010, where he studied with Suren Bagratuni and served as a teaching assistant.
His international performing career spans Europe, North and Central America, and Asia, with appearances as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral performer. His orchestral experience includes principal cello appointments with both opera and symphony orchestras, as well as performances in Russia and abroad.
Alongside his performing career, Dr. Guliaev has maintained an active commitment to music education, presenting masterclasses in Europe and China.
At the heart of his teaching philosophy is the belief that musical intention should guide technical development. Rather than treating technique as an end in itself, he approaches technical challenges through artistic understanding, shaping instrumental skills and solutions around the expressive goals of the music.
