Hsieh Chengfeng, is a professor and master's supervisor at the School of Music of East China Normal University, and the director of the Keyboard Department. He is also a visiting professor at Tunghai University in Taiwan, and an adjunct professor at Chongqing University of Humanities, Science and Technology. He is a member of the Academic Committee of the Piano Society and the Electronic Keyboard Society of the Chinese Society of Education. Hsieh Chengfeng completed his bachelor's and master's degrees at Tunghai University in Taiwan, under the tutelage of Dr. Kuo Tsung-kai, Dr. Ai Jia-hui and Dr. Rosemary Platt. He later pursued further studies in the United States and obtained a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in piano performance from the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati, under the guidance of Professors Eugene Pridonoff and Elizabeth Pridonoff.

As a Steinway Artist, Hsieh Chengfeng has a broad musical vision, profound musical literacy and extensive musical knowledge. He frequently performs, gives lectures and holds master class around the world, enjoying his multiple identities as a performer, scholar, teacher and speaker. He has a vast repertoire of solo, concerto and chamber music works from the Baroque to the modern period. He has been invited to perform at major music festivals such as the Northeast Asia International Piano Festival, Gulangyu International Piano Festival, Nagasaki Music Festival in Japan, East-West Music Festival in South Korea, Saarburg International Music Festival in Germany, Vianden International Music Festival in Luxembourg, and Perugia International Music Festival in Italy. In China, he is often invited to perform at various music festivals, academic symposiums and music conservatories. In 2023, Hsieh Chengfeng's first solo album "Farewell", and in 2025, second solo album “Abundance” were published both online and offline by Shanghai Music Publishing House.

As a scholar, Hsieh Chengfeng's numerous research achievements are based on the concept of "Performance Practice". He combines theory with practice and conducts interdisciplinary thinking on music performance and piano playing techniques. His viewpoints cover the fields of physiology, physics and philosophy. His academic monograph "Random Walk on the Black and White Keys: Analysis and Interpretation of Western Piano Works" was published by Shanghai Music Publishing House and has been reprinted multiple times, receiving high praise from the piano industry. It also won the third prize of the 13th Guizhou Provincial Philosophy and Social Sciences Outstanding Achievements Award. In addition, many of his academic papers have been published in core or professional journals: "Crossing the Gap between Musicology and Music Performance: An Analysis of Historical Context and Solution Approaches" was reprinted in full in "Reprint of Newspapers and Periodicals" (Renmin University of China), "Interpretation of Music Performance from the Perspective of Philosophical Hermeneutics" was published in "Journal of the Central Conservatory of Music", "On the Evolution and Trends of 'Performance Practice' Research in Western Music: With Implications for China" was published in "Yellow Bell", "On the Controversy of Piano Technique Training: A Theoretical Analysis from the Perspectives of Physiology and Physics" was published in "Piano Art", and "The Application of Physiology and Physics in Piano Basic Teaching" was included in the collection "Exploration of Modern Piano Teaching Methods". As the chief editor of "New Advanced Piano Tutorial" (published by Xiamen University Press), Hsieh Chengfeng participated in the compilation of "New Applied Piano Tutorial" (Assistant Editor, basic and advanced editions), which will be published by Higher Education Press. His translation work "Performance Practice of Classical Period Piano Music" will be published by Shanghai Music Publishing House in 2026.

As a piano teacher, Hsieh Chengfeng has a unique teaching experience - from the Dalian campus of Shenyang Conservatory of Music in Northeast China, to Guizhou Normal University in Southwest China, and then to East China Normal University in Shanghai. He has witnessed the humanistic environment and local customs of various regions in China, understood the real situation of piano teaching, and deeply experienced the interaction between people and music. He is aware of the needs of piano teachers and offers courses such as "Piano Literature", "Piano Pedagogy", and "Keyboard Performance Practice" for postgraduate students. He has attempted to give special lectures on the works of Bach, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, and Chopin, playing and explaining at the same time. He has also been invited to serve as a judge in important piano competitions at home and abroad, such as the Steinway National Youth Piano Competition, the Steinway (Malaysia) Youth Piano Competition Finals, the National College Piano Competition (Little Golden Bell), the Kawai Asia Piano Competition, the Gulangyu Double Piano Competition, the Gulangyu Amateur Piano Competition, and the MTNA Piano Competition in the United States.
