Violinist Kim Nam-hoon graduated early from Yeonwon Arts School and Seoul Arts High School before entering Korea National University of Arts as a gifted student, completing both a Bachelor of Arts and a Professional Performer program. During his school years, he established his foundation as a performer by winning prizes in major competitions including Korea Ilbo Competition, Chosun Ilbo Competition, Korea Philharmonic Competition, Ewha Kyunghyang Competition, JoongAng Ilbo Competition, and Overseas Dispatch Music Association Competition.

He made his stage debut at age twelve performing with the New Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, and subsequently expanded his activities through collaborations with Seoul Symphony Orchestra, Seoul Chamber Orchestra, and others. He continued his performance activities through solo recitals at venues like Sejong Center for the Performing Arts in 1998 and Kumho Young Artist Recital in 2002. He also participated in the recording of violinist Kim Ji-yeon's album Serenata Notturno, released by Decca in 2008.

He subsequently expanded his international experience through collaborations with Plymouth Philharmonic Orchestra in Boston and MAV Symphony Orchestra in Budapest. After serving as guest concertmaster of Wonju City Symphony Orchestra, he studied abroad in the United States, earning a Master of Music degree and a Professional Studies degree from the Manhattan School of Music.

Following an invitation from Todd Phillips, violinist of the Orion String Quartet, he entered the doctoral program at Rutgers University, where he received his Doctor of Musical Arts degree.

During his doctoral studies and upon graduation, he performed in various venues, including the Petit Classical Concert at the Korean Cultural Center in Washington, D.C., solo recital at Carnegie Hall, the JSAC Gala Concert, a guest performance with the Georgia State University Symphony Orchestra, and a solo recital at the Tongyeong International Music Foundation. He also served as concertmaster for the Atlanta Sinfonia at the Atlanta Korean Film Music Concert, demonstrating his orchestral leadership.

He is currently a full-time professor at Keimyung University's College of Music and Performing Arts, balancing teaching with performance activities.


He maintains an active chamber music career with Trio ON, V9 Ensemble, Hwaum Chamber Orchestra, DCH Virtuoso Chamber, New-Old Ensemble, and Ensemble The First. He also participates in diverse chamber music performances, including concerts at Deoksugung Palace's Stone Pavilion.

He studied under Namyun Kim, Donghyun Kim, Sangwoo Park, Lucie Robert, Todd Phillips, and Michael Kim.
