Her principal teachers included Lee-Wen Dai, Chu-Chuan Liu, and Ching-Wen Hsu. She distinguished herself early by winning several local cello competitions and later earned her Bachelor’s degree from National Taiwan Normal University before pursuing further studies in the United States.
She obtained her Master’s degree from Indiana University, where she served as a cello assistant instructor, studying with the Hungarian cellist Csaba Onczay and receiving individual coaching from János Starker. She later earned her Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she studied with Brandon Vamos.
Recognized for her expressive artistry and versatility, Ko-Hsin Chang has performed throughout Asia and North America. In 2024, she was invited to teach and perform at the International Summer Cello Intensive in Hong Kong. From 2023 to 2024, she presented her international recital series Future Echoes at Esplanade in Singapore, the National Recital Hall in Taipei, and the Weiwuying National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts, supported by Taiwan’s National Culture and Arts Foundation.
She is on the faculty of the National Taiwan University of Arts, where she teaches cello and chamber music. Dr. Chang remains an active performer in Taiwan and is the cellist of the Narrativo Piano Trio. She also serves as a jury member for music competitions in Taiwan.
Her teaching philosophy emphasizes healthy, body-aware playing that allows freedom of movement and musical expression. She helps students develop technical efficiency and a natural sound that grows from physical ease and clear musical intent.
