Hung-Lin Henry Lin, guided from an early age by Professor Lana Hsiang, Principal Cellist of the National Symphony Orchestra of Taiwan, is a prize-winning cellist who has excelled in numerous national competitions in Taiwan. He received a full scholarship to Crossroads School, a leading arts high school in the U.S., studying under Ben Hong, Assistant Principal Cellist of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. While in high school, Lin gained national recognition when invited by K-Mozart, a leading U.S. classical music radio station, to perform live at Bing Theater.

Lin earned both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at the Manhattan School of Music on merit-based scholarships, studying with David Soyer of the Guarneri Quartet, renowned pedagogue Marion Feldman, and celebrated cellist Margo Drakos. During this period, he performed extensively in chamber, orchestral, and opera settings. In 2006, he was appointed Principal Cellist of the acclaimed Blue Hill Troupe in New York. In 2008, Lin commenced his DMA at the Catholic University of America under Michael Mermagen, fully funded by a scholarship. While in Washington, D.C., he maintained a strong commitment to both performance and pedagogy, performing with the National Philharmonic and serving as Principal Cellist and Section Mentor at the Aspen International Music Festival (2011).

Upon returning to Taiwan, Lin has distinguished himself as a versatile soloist and chamber musician, performing concertos with leading orchestras and collaborating with prominent musicians internationally. Notably, he was invited by Japan’s TIAA to premiere a modern piano trio by Taiwanese composer Chang Hsiaofung in Tokyo. He is a member of the Academy of Taiwan Strings and serves as Principal Cellist for the NewArt Symphony Orchestra and Fantastique Philharmonic Orchestra.

Renowned for his expansive repertoire, compelling stage presence, and a balance of disciplined technique with expressive freedom, Lin is equally respected as an educator. His engaging and dynamic teaching style inspires students to approach learning and practice with passion and dedication.

Dr. Lin currently holds faculty positions in the Departments of Music at National Tsinghua University, Soochow University, and Shih Chien University, teaching Orchestral Excerpts for Cello, Chamber Music, and private lessons.
