Dr. Xiaoyang Zhao, lyric baritone, received his musical education in China, the United Kingdom, and the United States. He currently serves as coordinator of voice studies at Beijing Normal University, Zhuhai, where he is also a faculty member and postgraduate supervisor. In addition, he holds concurrent teaching positions at Zhuhai College of Science and Technology and Beijing Normal University–Hong Kong Baptist University United International College.
Dr. Zhao has established a distinguished career in vocal performance, pedagogy, and scholarship. His operatic roles include the title role in Hamlet, Count in Le Nozze di Figaro, Papageno in Die Zauberflöte, and Bob in The Old Maid and the Thief, among others.
He has performed solo recitals extensively across China, including Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau, as well as in England and the United States.
He has been invited to present masterclasses, lectures, and lecture-recitals at leading institutions such as Cornell University, Peking University, National Taichung University of Education, and at festivals including the Silk Road International Music Festival, China International Ice & Snow Music Festival,Zhuhai Hengqin IMUSIC International Festival, Xi’an International Music Festival, and the ASME@WAU Music Festival.
As a scholar, Dr. Zhao is the author of the monograph Fundamental Principles in Vocal Pedagogy and has published over twenty peer-reviewed articles in journals such as China Music Education, Art of Singing, and Arts Education.
He has served as a judge for numerous international vocal competitions and has received multiple honors, including “Outstanding Musician of the Year” awards from Guangdong Province and Zhuhai City, as well as “Excellent Tutor” awards from international competitions.
Committed to interdisciplinary and international approaches to vocal education, Dr. Zhao is widely recognized for his pedagogical innovation, artistic versatility, and leadership in the field.
