After studies in the Shanghai Conservatory of Music with Prof. ZhiNuo Ding, ZhengYu Wu went to the Royal Northern College of Music for Master Degree and Professional Performance Diploma with ABRSM Scholarships A. In where she met legendary violinist Ivry Gitlis in competition, and she started to fly to Paris every month to study with Ivry in the following two years. ZhengYu’s interest in polishing violin playing technique brought her later to Madrid, where she studied with remarkable teacher Zakhar Bron in the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía, string quartet trained by Prof. Rainer Schmidt and later by Prof. Günter Pichler.
At the age of 26, ZhengYu got her first job as 1 st Concertmaster of Shanghai
Philharmonic Orchestra. One year later, she won the audition of BBC Philharmonic Leader (40%), and she played with BBC Philharmonic Orchestra in 2010 as guest concertmaster.
As soloist, Zheng-Yu made her debut recital in the Shanghai Grand Theatre and
started to play with the leading orchestras in China – includes China National
Symphony Orchestra, Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, Shanghai Philharmonic
Orchestra, Suzhou Symphony Orchestra, Xiamen Philharmonic Orchestra, Henan Symphony Orchestra - and appeared on occasions in major cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Xiamen, Hangzhou, Suzhou, Wenzhou, Henan and Xinjiang among others.
While in Europe, Zheng-Yu has played solo with Maestro Vladimir Ashkenazy, Justus Franz, MuHai Tang and others. She made her Russian tour on the programme of Tchaikovsky violin Concerto, Brahms violin Concerto, Chausson Poeme and Ravel Tzigane.
ZhengYu has played as soloist or concertmaster in concert halls in Belgium, England, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Slovakia, Spain and Switzerland; such as Auditorio Nacional de Musica in Madrid, Zurich Tonhalle, Victoria-Hall Geneva, Royal Opera House in Barcelona, Royal Opera House in Gent, Queen Elizabeth Hall in Anterverp, Bratislava National Theatre, Bartok National Concert Hall in Budapest, and others.
With years of concertmaster experience, ZhengYu started to teach in the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. She conducts String Orchestra and Symphony Orchestra of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. And she published CD recordings with Shanghai Conservatory of Music Press House. She gave concerts as conductor in Shanghai Spring International Music Festival and China Shanghai International Arts Festival.
Every year during her summer vacation, ZhengYu holds a string summer camp for one week. Hundreds of Children gathered together to play ensembles and solo performances in a tourism city in China. ZhengYu has published several etudes and music with Shanghai Education Press House, Shanghai Music Press House, and Shanghai Conservatory of Music Press House.
Ivry Gitlis recommended her as “a natural musician and violinist, a quality deserving, more than ever today, to be encouraged and respected. Processing the means, both technical and musical, to implement fully the demands of our great heritage.”
Zakhar Bron appraised ZhengYu in Russian language translated “over the years, she has grown into a great musician, where she mastered excellent activities and played music as soloist, chamber musician, conductor and concertmaster. In all of these areas, ZhengYu shows wonderful creativity and individuality. All creativity penetrates deeply into the soul and heart. I recommend her with deep conviction for a variety of activities at the highest level.”
