Described by critics as "a pianist possessing the talent and intelligence necessary for piano interpretations and endowed with the maturity and professionalism needed to overcome any technical difficulty", the pianist Mario Alonso Herrero is one of most internationally renowned Spanish pianists.
Winner of the first Gran Prize and gold medallist in the International
Piano Competition Panama in 2006, Mario Alonso has received awards in 15 other national and international competitions Cagliari, Parma, Valencia, San Sebastián. In 2005 and 2008, he received the prestigious Juventudes Musicales award in Madrid from Her Majesty the Queen Sofía of Spain.
He has performed as a soloist with several orchestras: Calgary Symphonic Orchestra, Nanjing and Shanghai Philarmoniic, Valencia Municipal Orchestra, Madrid Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Emilia Romagna, Andrés Segovia Chamber Orchestra, the Vigo Symphonic Orchestra among others.
Has been invited to perform in distinguished concert halls throughout
the world, National Concert Hall Juan March Foundation, the Palau de la Música in Valencia (Spain) London Wigmore Hall, St. James Picadilly, Cambridge Summer festival UK) Vancouver Chan Center (Canada), Salle Cortot (France) Concertgebow De Doelen Rotterdam (Netherlands) Teatro Lírico de Cagliari, Teatro Regio de Parma (Italy), Dortmund, Leipzig (Germany), Kyoto, Nagoya (Japan), A. Puskin Foundation in Moscow (Russia), Baltimore Piano Festival, Chicago (USA), Teatro Nacional (Panama) or Monterrey (Mexico).
Currently he lives in China, where since 2015 he develops a successful career as soloist playing over 30 concert every year in the most renowned concert halls: Beijing Forbidden City, Beijing NCPA, Shanghai Oriental Arts Center, Shanghai Concert Hall, Nanjing Performing Arts Center, Shenzhen Concert Hall, Guangdong Concert Hall, Ningbo Grand Theatre, Hangzhou, Dalian, Chongqing and many others.
Giving several masterclasses around the country he is Guest Professor
at Zhejiang Foreign Studies University, but also in Madrid, Vancouver
British Columbia University (Canada) and lectures at Cambridge University (UK).
He is among few pianists than has offering live performances of Alkan etudes in minor keys, complete Prokofiev Sonatas or Liszt Trascendental etudes.
He was born in Madrid in 1983, learning the piano with pianist Marta Zabaleta and Gonzalo Rodriguez. He underwent higher education in piano at the Madrid Royal Conservatory under the deanship of Joaquín Soriano and Fernando Puchol and briefly at Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in Rotterdam and in the prestigious Accademia pianistica in Imola. He has recibe very valuable advices from pianists like Akiko Ebi, Aquiles Delle-vigne, Riccardo Risaliti, Claudio Martínez-Mehner among others
His experience as artistic director in several festivals has lead him to
create the Shanghai International Music Forum which will be hold in 2024
